A gentle breeze blew, rustling coconut palm fronds. The kind of setting where you feel like you’re in a movie!
The open-air setting immediately sets the tone. Warm island breeze. Palm trees swaying gently. Sailboats drifting through the bay below. It feels sophisticated without losing that laid-back St. John energy everyone comes here for.
And then the sunset started.
Honestly, I could have sat there for hours with just a cocktail and the view.

The Executive Chef of Ocean362, Kervens Beauvoir, embraces an “island to table” approach, focusing on fresh local ingredients and seasonal flavors. You can taste that connection to the islands in every dish.
The local snapper with wild rice and Creole sauce was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared without being overly complicated. The pan-seared halibut with passionfruit Cruzan rum reduction delivered that perfect balance of sweet, citrusy, and savory flavors that somehow tasted exactly like the Caribbean feels.
One standout for me was the braised oxtail gnocchi — rich, comforting, and packed with flavor while still feeling refined. Another favorite was the grilled octopus pesto burrata, which combined Mediterranean inspiration with unmistakable island freshness.
And if Caribbean lobster happens to be available when you visit, order it. No hesitation.

If you go, plan to arrive before sunset and spend time upstairs at the rooftop bar.

The cocktail program here is every bit as impressive as the kitchen. I started with the Parrot Fish cocktail—a tropical mix of dark rum, passionfruit, and ginger beer that tasted dangerously easy to drink while watching the sunset over the harbor.
Later, I tried the Hibiscus Old Fashioned, made with Bacardi 8-Year Rum and hibiscus-ginger syrup. It was smooth, slightly floral, and felt like the Caribbean version of a classic cocktail lounge favorite.
There’s something magical about sitting above Cruz Bay as the sky turns orange and pink, music drifts softly through the air, and everyone collectively slows down for the evening.
It’s the kind of atmosphere that makes you forget to check your phone.
Stylish Without Feeling Pretentious
One thing I appreciated about Ocean 362 is that it never feels stuffy.
Yes, the restaurant is beautiful. The design mixes polished wood, warm lighting, local artwork, and tropical touches in a way that feels upscale yet welcoming. But the overall atmosphere remains relaxed and inviting.
You’ll see couples celebrating anniversaries, groups of friends lingering over cocktails, and travelers fresh off the beach all sharing the same space comfortably.
That balance is hard to pull off, but Ocean 362 does it effortlessly.
It feels authentic to St. John—refined, yet relaxed.

Ocean 362 is open Thursday through Monday for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Reservations are definitely recommended, especially if you want sunset seating upstairs. The rooftop lounge is easily one of the best places on St. John to watch the sun disappear into the Caribbean.

By the end of the evening, as the lights of Cruz Bay flickered below and the last of the cocktails disappeared from the table, I realized Ocean 362 had given me exactly what I hope to find when traveling:
